You were made for this.
Each birth is brand new and ancient all at once. You're not starting from scratch, you're writing the next chapter of a story that's been told by every birthing person before you, and you don’t have to write it alone.
What I do
Whether this is your first baby or your fourth, whether you're planning an unmedicated birth at a birthing center or an epidural at the hospital, you deserve someone in your corner who knows what they're doing and who gives a damn.
That's what I'm here for.
I offer birth doula support for families of all kinds in the Hampton Roads region. I'll be with you through the questions, the nerves, the waiting, the hard parts, and the moment everything changes. Continuous labor support, prenatal visits, postpartum check-ins, and someone you can text in the night when your brain won't stop.
I’ve got you.
A little about me
Hi, I’m Ashley.
I’ve wanted to be a doula since I learned what the word means. A few degrees, careers, and kids later - here I am.
I've spent my whole life helping things grow. Plants, students, and now families. I had incredible birth experiences, and I know how rare that is. Too many people I know can’t relate.
I started Kinfolk Birth Co. because birth shouldn't be the moment you get pushed aside and funneled through the motherhood machine. It should feel powerful. Defining. Yours.
You're not just a patient, and you’re not just a chart. You're someone in the middle of one of the most significant moments of your life. Let’s make sure that you feel that way.
Why Kinfolk?
People have asked about the name, and the answer is pretty simple. Kinfolk are the people who show up.
Not because they have to, because that's what kin does.
The concept of kin-keeping refers to the quiet, consistent work of maintaining the bonds that hold a family together. Remembering the birthdays, making the calls, showing up with food, holding space when things get hard. It's work that has traditionally fallen to women, work that rarely gets named or celebrated, and yet without it, our most important connections would simply break down.
Birth is kin-keeping at its most elemental. The moment a new person enters the world, someone is already weaving them into the fabric of a family, a community, and a story that started long before them. That work is sacred. And the people who witness it, support it, and hold space for it matter more than we often acknowledge.
Kinfolk Birth Co. is named for that web of connection. For the chosen family that gathers around a birthing person and says, we see you, and you are not alone in this. For the wisdom passed down through generations of people who have done this before. For the idea that birth isn't a medical event to be managed — it's a human event to be honored.
You're not starting from scratch. You're continuing a story that belongs to all of us.
Kin-keeping is the quiet work of holding people together. Birth is where it begins.
